Our individual child and family counseling is geared towards helping families become the best they can be, by giving parents and children tools for success. Starting intervention early provides children, adolescents and their parents the keys to help them thrive in school and home life. Wherever a family finds themselves, counseling can provide encouragement and support to create a more loving and successful home. Mental Health Therapy can be described as the use of psychological methods in which are utilized to manage or eliminate a variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties, through the development of individualized treatment plans which center around goals and needs in response to everyday functioning

When to Refer/Warning Signs:

  • Withdrawal from friends and family
  • Moodiness and irritability that last for a few weeks
  • Loss or lack of interest in activities that were once enjoyed
  • Significant changes in eating and sleeping habits
  • Presence of negative self-talk such as “I’m worthless” or “I never do anything right”
  • Reverting to physical and/or verbal aggression when upset or frustrated
  • Presence of thoughts of self-harm or hurting others
  • Sudden drop in grades at school
  • Excessive and/or irrational worries or fears
  • Display of anxious behaviors such as nail biting, picking, pulling hair,

     

    What to expect:

    Mental Health Therapy starts with an assessment or evaluation. This is done during the first session and requires that at least one parent/guardian (ideally both if possible) and the client be present. During this time, the therapist will build build rapport with the family, ask questions about what brings the family into therapy, and what goals they would like to establish
